Where does the inspiration of
Maestro Juan Carlos Callejas come from?
The Master and Philosopher Callejas inspires a large part of his works, from urban scenes, with which he tries to reflect the universality of everyday doing, the artist states, “that both in everyday moments, as in musical improvisations, a man throws himself to the world in an uncontrollable way.
“This corresponds to a particular reflection, where the story is also built through references, and especially images, a very important allegory. Which leads us to think that these images could be paintings”.

The Artist has managed to immortalize his talent through paintings full of life, and with a spirit that marvels at the world, with themes and colors that capture the daily life and the surroundings of his hometown.

A good time has passed since then and I have found in different thinkers such as Kant, Nietzsche and Antonín Artaud, peace of mind, I am not anguished to be able to answer my question, I believe that doubt, questions and uncertainty are much more stimulating than truths and the certainties, maybe at some point I will have the answers and the truths, and I will share them with you, or maybe not.”

A unique technique
“I began to create my works with the arrival of the new millennium, in 2001 I studied the chemical components of industrial paints to develop my own materials based on polyvinyl resins, in this way I managed to overcome a stage of monetary scarcity to buy the materials that today give a unique and original touch to the texture and technique of my work”
The use of recycled bags and biopolymer plastics in my works somehow represents a contribution to environmental decontamination.

I discovered the artwork of the philosopher and painter Callejas, in his workshop in the San Antonio neighborhood in Cali, Colombia. It was in 2020, a time when the mankind demanded a greater commitment to the environment, and that was what impressed me, through his technics, which reflects a positive contribution to climate change, using polyvinyl compounds, plastic bags and aluminum in his art.
For this serie “Origen Futbolero” inspired by the World Cup Qatar 2022, his exceptional stroke is complemented by the expressionist and conceptual scene that invites us to reflect on those moments where children play and dream at the same time.

The magnitude of a football world cup contrast with the naturalness scene which many football stars began their career. As the Hegel bout “history is the history of the victory”. Soccer has a long history and this one it has been told in many ways and times. The winners propose an imaginary world that subsist on every day reality. The winner is there in the middle of the east, in the middle of the street, in the park, in the playground of the school, in the square, at worker’s break, in the improvised word, in the nick name, in the bare feet of the children who turn any place and time into a opportunity to play.
